The US has been waging a "war on drugs" for 50+ years. All it's done is destroy civil liberties and fund armed federal agencies. The drug trade never stopped, nor has demand. Believing the US will stop drugs by bombing boats is idiocy. It's not the reason for this war either:

Africans certainly had geographic and spatial awareness. Cartography certainly existed. Starting with pre-colonial Nigeria. Many groups within this region had indigenous cartography, both oral and physical.
