I spoke with several members of the Nationals’ young core - CJ Abrams, Lane Thomas, and Keibert Ruiz - about turning a corner in the club’s rebuild, including the imminent arrivals of elite prospects Dylan Crews and James Wood.

It would be wild if Ohtani’s camp used Morosi and Hoornstra as pawns to create that Friday frenzy for the Blue Jays that made the nervous Dodgers cough up $700M.
Not sure how Toronto fans feel being played, if true, after there was supposed to be “no leaks.”
So putting all the Ohtani pieces together it looks like ...
- Ohtani hoped to land with the Dodgers (it was reported early he knew where he wanted to go), gave them chance for final offer
- Agent likely initially wasn't getting the $$ he wanted
- Someone (Ohtani's camp?)…
Exciting career news... I’ll be joining The Score as a full-time baseball news editor in 2019! Its been a fun 5-plus years in radio that included stops in Yellowknife, Van Island and Toronto. But I’m beyond excited to work for a brand that ignited my love for pro sports as a kid.
I had the enviable pleasure of touring the new Rogers Centre, including trying the new drinks and food (yes, the poutine hot dog is unreal).
Here’s the 411 on what Blue Jays fans can expect for Tuesday’s home opener vs. the Tigers.
@JGoldberg12
Bo, Teo, Pearson, and maybe another prospect.
Espinal slides to SS, Biggio to 2B. Outfield consists of Gurriel, Springer, and Soto with Tapia remaining as the 4th OF.
Springer, Soto, Vlad, Kirk, Gurriel, and Chapman are your 1-6 in the lineup.
Imagine the Blue Jays played more than 36 games in Toronto. The best team in the division isn’t going to the playoffs and you couldn’t convince me otherwise. Bring this club back next year and they could win the World Series.
@WalderSports
People having been selling the Raps short for the past four years despite four straight 50-plus win seasons. Team won 58 games with Kawhi playing in 60 and Klow in 65. I see them winning 50 again if everybody is healthy. Full season of Gasol and Pascal's emergence are big.
@odognine2
Beat the NBA-best Rockets twice, embarrassed the Cavs on national TV and pummelled the Celtics. Tough loss on the second game of a back-to-back on the road tonight... but let's not let recency bias cloud our judgment.
Finished my last shift
@FAN590
today. And let me tell you this, the station is
#1
in Canada for sports talk radio because of the people that work there. Hardworking, friendly, intelligent, insightful, passionate, etc. I wish nothing but the best for them moving forward in 2019.
How the hell was Carlos Delgado only a two-time All-Star?!
Dude had a career .929 OPS over 17 years and hit 30-plus HRs for 10 straight seasons, including 40 plus three times. Won more Silver Sluggers and finished at least top six in MVP voting more times than ASG nods 🤔
@sheridanhoops
Not a single mention of Kawhi here... the dude is averaging 25 and 8 with almost 2 steals a game and the Raps sit at an NBA best 19-4 right now.
Very excited to be joining
@theScore
as a Baseball Editor starting next week.
Really looking forward to being a part of a great group

Now about that Lockout...
“The biggest thing that's going to continue to help my game get to the next level is playing with that chip on my shoulder.”
I sat down with
@Alek_Manoah6
to discuss pitching, WS aspirations, his love for Toronto, and the recognition from
@DoveMenCare
for defending Kirk.
@GaudsPlan
@JeffVeillette
Dude, you’ve got to be kidding me... Pettersson and Hughes haven’t played a single game in the NHL. Also, Kadri is a solid two-way player coming off b2b 30-goal seasons and could be up for the Selke sooner than later... Horvat isn’t there yet man.
"We know what position we're in and we're fighting for a wild-card spot most likely, and we just need to go on a heck of a run. Black out for the rest of September."
I had a candid conversation with
@KKiermaier39
about what it takes to make the postseason and if the Blue Jays…
@mike_petriello
There are some who think this is who Vlad is and that 2021 was an outlier. He has similar numbers in every season except his MVP runner-up campaign.
@WalderSports
Best player to ever play for the Raptors is Kawhi. Greatest is DeMar or Vince for what they have done for the franchise over the years. This is like saying that LeBron is greatest Laker ever.
What’s the secret behind Lourdes Gurriel Jr.’s hair? 🤫
I chatted one-on-one with the Blue Jays OF about video games, brotherly love, and his legendary flow. Thanks for the laughs
@yunitogurriel
And now Daniel Hudson coming in to close the wild-card game for the Nationals. Just like we all predicted when he was a middle reliever in the Blue Jays’ bullpen to start 2019.
If the potential deal between
#Nationals
#Padres
actually goes down the Nationals return is expected to be centered around SS C.J. Abrams,OF Robert Hassell III, LHP Adrian Morejon and at least 2 others in the transaction with Josh Bell being included with Soto going the other way
Sleepy thoughts:
- Kawhi is the MAN and he will forever be a Raptor for what he did.
- I hope every clown “insider” gets all the shit they deserve.
- Raps will be fine. Pascal as a No. 1 is intriguing and Masai’s appetite for winning can’t be stopped.
- Suck it Lakers fans!!
@TorontoStar
New Zealand has 4.5M people, so mentioning the two in the same breadth is silly. B.C. also basically has no cases and it’s about the size of NZ...
The MLSE Jet getting cleared this morning from CYYZ Clearance Deliver.
It is enroute to KSAN (San Diego). Most likely to pick up

Nobody is just going to give them a full-time job coming out of school. Not in this industry. They need to earn it and put in the time. Might end up in some small town in another province.
@FireLombardi
@Bucks
Right... and the Bucks should get a banner that says “amazing regular-season team.” Go chirp when your team has a title. No time for pretenders.
Buster Olney says he believes “there was a lot of disinformation used, some reporters were used, and that stuff was leaked.”
It’s a conspiracy theory until it’s not 👀
"I think the Blue Jays gave an earnest effort to sign Ohtani...but they were used."
This morning on

,
@Buster_ESPN
discussed the Blue Jays coming up short in the Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes.
#NextLevel
How do you feel about how the Ohtani signing went down? Let us know!…
This feels like a VERY good deal based on all the crazy money flying around.
Also, this is another lesson for fans and media freaking out to chill the fuck out until an entire offseason is complete. Atkins and Shapiro are smarter than you.
BREAKING: Right-hander Chris Bassitt and the Toronto Blue Jays are in agreement on a three-year, $63 million contract, pending physical, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN. Story on Toronto making a big move and adding to its rotation, free at ESPN:
"Sources said they’ve shown recent interest in Johnny Cueto, who posted a 3.35 ERA in 158.1 innings with the White Sox last year."
Cueto would be a solid No. 5 for the Blue Jays.
Following a busy stretch in MLB free agency, one that saw Toronto sign starting pitcher Chris Bassitt and outfielder Kevin Kiermaier,
@bnicholsonsmith
checks in on where the Blue Jays could look next.
People are legit shook the Blue Jays seem content on having Kikuchi and White competing for the No. 5 spot in the spring.
Toronto’s rotation includes two Cy Young contenders and a guy who’s pitched at an All-Star level for years before an outlier campaign.
Relax 🧘♂️
Davis Schneider has accrued more fWAR in 25 games than George Springer, Brandon Belt, Danny Jansen, Alejandro Kirk, Dalton Varsho, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. have all season.
This is amazing and deeply troubling at the same time.
The Blue Jays got serious this offseason about establishing a winning mentality in the clubhouse by bringing in no-nonsense players with talent.
I expect this team to be very good in 2023 despite less buzz heading into the new campaign.
"The A's are planning to slash their payroll to a major-league low $50 million for the 2022 season, two MLB executives told USA TODAY Sports."
RIP Oakland Athletics 🪦
The Oakland A’s,who won just two fewer games than World Series champions, bracing for rebuild, letting manager Bob Melvin bolt for San Diego, and open for trades.
@jordanbrown04
@Sid_Seixeiro
Right... but nobody, and I mean nobody, would have said the Raptors were beating the Warriors to claim an NBA championship. If Toronto gets bounced in the ECF or the Finals... how do ppl feel about the deal? Going all in for 2nd place felt strange at the time.
The Raps are now tied for fourth in the East after starting the season 2-8. Toronto’s beaten Milwaukee and Philly three times in its last four games (no Lowry in two and a half).
Nature is healing.
@SamAMcKee
But wouldn’t you be more upset if it was a top prospect like Knies? The highest pick will be a late first-rounder again and then it’s all a lottery after that.
Gotta try to give yourself any sort of possible boost against the Lightning. That’s how close it will be again…
Yes, that Ohtani-Blue Jays rumour from the other day is pretty suspect. However, let’s allow our imaginations to run wild haha.

Regardless of what happens this week, it’s pretty damn impressive the Blue Jays fought for a playoff spot until the very end after playing 36 home games and 126 road contests this season. No club had a tougher road imo.
Don’t understand the criticism toward the WBC for the Edwin Diaz injury. This dude’s knee was clearly on the verge of exploding at any point if he injured it gently jumping around during a celebration.
@DFisman
LOL how did you come up with those numbers? Ontario is at 1,100 right now and BC at 900... and you are telling me that the former will add 34,000 while the latter will have 500 more? That’s just wild man.
