Did you ever notice during the winter the high percentage of NFL branded winter jackets out in public. But, on the ski slopes, they're rather rare? I guess it's because some people prefer to create their own excitement, while others gain it vicariously while sitting on the couch.

30 years ago, we handed kids calculators and rejoiced that students would be able to do more real world problems. Then, we created contrived non-realistic "real world" problems that used small integers for every coefficient ever. Physics class shooting bowling ball off roof:

"ASTC" WHY?!! Students MUST learn that on the unit circle, (x,y) = (cos t, sin t). Every student knows which quadrants x and y are pos/neg in; and knows when the quotient is pos or neg. Tis better to understand than rely on ASTC as a crutch. #iteachmath

Well, school children all over the US are starting classes 1 hour later (on solar time) than they were last week. Proponents claim they will do much better for the next few months. We have annual data; no one's ever noticed a change.
