This was about as pleasing a debut as one is likely to see. Now, roughly three weeks later, the promising 2yo colt, Bow Echo, faces a stiffer task on Saturday at Haydock in a mile Listed event, with the Juddmonte colt Publish projected to be the even-odds favorite. Oh, and for.

Let’s jog your memory!. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited about seeing BOW ECHO tomorrow. If it wasn’t for the newborn I’d be half tempted to make the trip to Haydock to see him.

‡. What a Game! (part XXVII). Even as a long-standing cynic, who has witnessed decades of decline in the American thoroughbred racing industry, a walkover is a 5k claiming race was certainly not on my bingo card. 😂

‡. Not So Simple. I like Phil Serpe, and agree with the trainers quoted in the linked opinion piece that he is honest. I also agree that the penalty seems excessive. But as much as I respect Sean Clancy's knowledge of the game, and journalistic skills, there are some problems.

An unfunded mandate from the federal government. No transparency. No due process. Innocent people being harmed. Jockeys getting penalized for “overuse” of a styrofoam crop. Racetracks forced into a national lightning strike protocol. Read Sean Clancy’s op-ed from the.

‡. Ted Noffey – A Refreshing Anomaly . Ted Noffey's performance in the Grade I Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga was undeniably impressive, and especially given how the colt stretched away late. He also appears to be a big, nice type. He is by the fashionable and highly successful.

‡. The Pacific Classic Result. It was unfortunate that Nysos was scratched, but the result was interesting, with Fierceness, the 1.6/1 second-favorite, comfortably handling Journalism, the (overbet) 2/5 choice. That the odds of the remaining five runners ranged between 22/1

‡. Pacific Classic. There are some interesting questions to be answered in today's Pacific Classic. Fierceness has yet to even reproduce his best 3yo form this season, having undergone "minor" surgery during the offseason. He also prefers to race outside of horses, and in the.

‡. Are Gr. I Wins Not a Good Predictor of Stallion Potential?. This is an interesting, though somewhat complicated topic. I don't agree with Byron's assertion in the embedded post that "The link between the Pattern and breeding success is tenuous at best". By "Pattern", he is.

Recent Leading sires in Australia- I am Invincible, Written Tycoon, Not a Single Doubt, Deep Field etc never won a G1. The link between the Pattern and breeding success is tenuous at best. There are significantly better ways to measure both performance and breeding potential.

‡. Is Sovereignty a Great Horse?. The yearning for greatness, and associated rush to anoint individual athletes as such, has become common in all sports. It may be partly the result of the relative paucity of real, high-profile heroes in other aspects of American society, and,.

‡. Travers Day Results in <200 Words. The three most popular winners, and deservedly so, were Thorpedo Anna, Book'em Danno, and Sovereignty. All three embody some of the most valuable, and likeable characteristics shared by many high-class racehorses, most notably that they.

‡. The Voided Claim Problem. At the risk of being overly simplistic, as this issue has been rearing its head all too frequently, why not allow the trainer and/or vet employed by the new owner to overrule the state vet, and accept a claimed horse?. Yes, I understand that a box.

Our horse, Turf Rocket, won the 12th at Colonial and was claimed for 30. The state vet said she didn’t jog out well and voided the claim. We would NEVER run an unsound horse and she won! Trainers said she jogged out fine. This rule is good but its implementation is terrible.

‡. Investing Lessons Learned by an Amateur, and a Pro. Back around the peak of the tech bubble (i.e. ~2000), I had some newfound money to invest, having done very well with a horse that I had bought and managed for a good client. My father was a veteran investor in the stock.

‡. Is The Travers Essentially a Match Race?. This year's Travers attracted only five horses, in large part because Sovereignty has proven nearly unbeatable as a three-year-old. His two high-class foils, Journalism and Baeza, are sitting this one out, leaving four new shooters to.

I agree with Dean (PTP), and his post on the two recent @derby1592 Bet With The Best podcasts, featuring Marshall Gramm, is excellent. The podcasts themselves are an hour each, but well worth your time if you want to learn about CAWs, and related wagering issues. Both Chris and.
