1/2 Our new @sos_bangor_uni @SEACAMS2 paper shows that understanding the diel vertical migration #DVM behaviour of forage fish may help in assessing potential collision risk of top predators with tidal energy developments.

This seems likes a very broad policy suggestion. MPAs exist for many reasons. Around Wales there are large MPAs for harbour porpoise, they are not designed based on seabed habitats. Banning bottom fishing from vast MPAs like this may have complex unintended outcomes.
BREAKING 📢 The Government's own MPs and many others across parties call for a BAN on destructive bottom-trawl fishing in offshore marine protected areas🪸 This intervention from the Environmental Audit Committee shows that pressure is building 💥💥💥 https://t.co/zkmfaG4UHm

Today's #Museum30 theme is NAME. So here's just a few of the new species that have been discovered, described & named by @AmgueddfaCymru scientists & their colleagues. This work is the vital foundation stone in understanding & conserving species in a changing world

Researchers @sos_bangor_uni believe they’ve found HMS Stephen Furness, a WWI ship lost in 1917 with over 100 crew. Located via sonar & digital archives through the #UnpathdWaters project, this find reveals history hidden beneath the Irish Sea. More: https://t.co/WmWCUSv12x

Another good trip on the #RVPrinceMadog of @sos_bangor_uni with @Macomabalthica and his PhD student. Some highlights were these tiny sea cucumbers (Ocnus planci) and seeing the @trinityhouse_uk Galatea at night.

Went to see the piece myself and @TDJ_marine put together for the @BangorCSEE data-art exhibition. It shows the track of the @sos_bangor_uni #RVPrinceMadog over 20 years. Lots of interesting data-art to look at for free in @PontioTweets, but only for a few more days.

I see people often quote that seagrass captures more carbon than rainforests when promoting seagrass restoration in Wales, UK. The relevant comparison is between Welsh seagrass habs vs. adjacent sediment that lacks seagrass, not land ecosystems which don't exist here. #bluecarbon

The work of @CardiffCurator in marine taxonomy is important. I have especially benefitted from the expertise of their bivalve expert/curator Anna Holmes during my research. I hope their work will be well supported by @WelshGovernment into the future #TaxonomistAppreciationDay

Interesting report. Clear about uncertainty, knowledge gaps, inconsistency in models, observations, remotely sensed data 'Observed trends in storms and waves cannot be directly attributed to climate change because of the high variability and limited understanding of mechanisms.'
Our report for the @MccipOrgUK shows how UK seas could see significantly higher waves and stronger storms as a result of #climatechange 🌊 Read how our evidence is helping to inform future policy, protecting people across the UK https://t.co/IcZzJ7ywL2

For months this mains leak on Tyddyn To #menaibridge has been reported by many, nothing done about it after a failed repair. Ice has now resulted across the steep road. Someone will have a preventable accident on a motorbike/bicycle. @RhunapIorwerth @DwrCymru @angleseycouncil

Really enjoyed the Electroacoustic Wales last night. With composition by @acousmatician with @sos_bangor_uni data, pieces by @anniemahtani, and compositions by Ben Powell of @sos_bangor_uni. Showed me what surround sound can really sound like with 32 speakers around and above me
Really looking forward to welcoming @anniemahtani as our featured composer at Electroacoustic Wales tomorrow! @MDPBangor @BangorUni

Great work by Mike Roberts and @Innes_McCartney of @sos_bangor_uni . 'The...SS Mesaba was crossing the Atlantic in April 1912 and sent a wireless message to the Titanic but its warning never reached the bridge.' The likely wreck has been identified.

The final resting place of the merchant ship SS Mesaba is pinpointed using cutting edge technology.

I found a nice Candy striped flatworm (Prostheceraeus vittatus) while out on the low tide this morning at #MenaiBridge. I don't think I have ever seen this species before.

How can historical sources help in #conservation? We examined 275-year old handwritten naturalist's notes to provide further evidence that a few specific reefs on the Welsh coast are vitally important to critically endangered angel sharks, which have become extinct elsewhere
