Being Jamaican makes it harder. Death is always a topic of conversation. I hate being with people and every second, oh you look like your mom, do you remember this or that about your mom. Because I can't physically remove myself from the conversation. I have to mentally do it.

This hit close to home for me. I lost my bio mom at the age of 9, I still remember that day & I grieved similarly to Athena & still do. I don't talk about her at all, not even with my dad. Hasn't been to any funeral since either. Is it the best way to grief? NO but it's hard.

The issue is that some people dismiss Athena’s way of grieving, yet they accept others’ grief without question.

Acknowledging that Athena is grieving as well, which is the reason she’s shut off & distant, isn’t defending Athena. It’s literally CAUSE and EFFECT.
