Creating one-of-a-kind wood turned bowls with refined or natural edge.

I know, it’s been a while since I’ve posted some wood turnings. Too much camping ⛺️ This 12”wide x 7”high ambrosia maple bowl is still warm from sanding. It has the heart of the log running through from side to side.

That was fun to watch!
Big things are happening at @IrvingShipbuild! Our first Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ship is coming to life faster than ever. Each block moved is a step closer to a vessel designed to safeguard our waters, support science research, and respond to environmental emergencies.

Hey there USA, I hear you’re having a pesky ICE problem right now. Have you ever considered coming to Canada for an infusion of NICE?

Silver maple burl and a close up of the stupendous character inside the bowl. Nature is incredibly beautiful and humbling. You can almost envision the close up view on a cosmic scale. It reminds me of pictures taken by the James Webb telescope.

We visited Bon Echo provincial park for the first time this past week. We kayaked past the cliffs, checked out the petroglyphs and hiked to the top. Definitely a park to revisit.

Box elder maple burl. This one is has more of a platter style to it. Do you see a crocodile in the bark inclusion at the bottom or something else?

I’ve had a box of spalted yellow birch burl planks tucked away since 2016/2017. It was just a matter of digging them out. Trouble is, there are always new goodies stacked in front.

I’m working on a new batch of silver maple burl today. These have flown off the shelf and it’s not hard to see why.

Any Rush fans out there? Here’s the story behind their album - A Farewell To Kings
On Aug. 29, 1977, A Farewell to Kings was released by Rush. The album saw the band expand their sound. It also had one of the band's signature songs Closer To The Heart on it. Today, it is considered one of the band's best albums. This is its story. 🧵 1/14

Three sugar maple burl pieces on the go. If they look similar, it’s because they all came from the same mother.

Here’s a story for @Orkwoodturner
Isobel Gunn pushed against the norms of the day by refusing to do what society expected of her. With a thirst for adventure, she chose instead to pose as a man and work for the Hudson's Bay Company. This is her story. 🧵 1/10

I’m working on a few white ash burls today. It’s sad to think that these will become rare in a few more years due to the Emerald Ash Borer. Most of the ash trees that I’ve seen across Ontario are either dead or dying.

This sugar maple burl called out to me next. I love taller shape and the figure in this one!

Next up was the red oak burl, also aquired this past winter. Some areas where white rot had started to invade but fortunately it was still hard and solid.

I finally got back at the lathe yesterday. I’ve been too busy with other business and when I did have time, heat domes were a factor. When it’s over 100° in the shop it’s a “hell no!” This is part of the maple eutypella aquired this past winter. 19” wide x 6.5” high.

We were scheduled to stay for 3 nights but a heavy storm system was in the forecast. As it turned out, was a smart move to leave early. Hwy 17 was washed out the next day. A detour around that area would have added an extra 4 hours to our 6 hour ride home.
