New on my channel! I have made the video I have always wanted to see, about the innovative filmmaker who directed the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film and captured many millennials of a certain age. & the box office!.

You can learn everything you ever need to about screenwriting from watching BACK TO THE FUTURE. A perfect screenplay. A perfect movie. Happy 40th Anniversary to my 3rd favorite movie of all-time.

I really like Michael Madsen's performance as Rudy in the 1994 version of The Getaway. A chilling and yet weirdly charismatic take on the character.

Probably my favourite Lalo Schifrin theme (and a song at that). It's Goldfinger on steroids, with a gorgeous Richard Williams title sequence to match. One day I hope to experience that intro on the big screen!.

Batman Begins is a great Batman movie. It also has wonderful use of miniature effects by Steve Begg, who assisted Derek Meddings on 1989s Batman. Both had begun their careers with Gerry Anderson. It was a treat watching the elaborate train crash on the big screen.

I can't wait to hear this nostalgia-soaked Johnny Morris' theme tune in a cinema in 2027.

Some of the most eye-catching visuals from The Maltese Falcon (1941). Inspired use of perspective, shadow, shape and lines to tell the story. Directed by John Huston.Cinematography Arthur Edeson

A View To A Kill turns 40 today. The 007 films of the 1970s & '80s did most of their special & visual effects in-camera. One of the few optical shots from the film, an animated gun flare, can be seen in the opening, for less than a second. Blink & you'll miss it.

The main explosion of another walker, in which the tiny bits of debris plop into the baking soda snow is also really effective and unforgettable.

I also really like the shot of the Walker head exploding, shot on a telephoto lens, but with lots of depth. The miniature itself is exploded in-camera, & then a separate explosion is composited over top, sharing the same debris. It gives a really unique effect.

The Empire Strikes Back turns 45 years old today. One of my favourite moments in the film is when the walkers head explodes and it cocks its back leg, like a wounded animal, before keeling over. The sound designers even make a point of underlining this with an electrical effect.
