Come to next week’s online Fonts & AI conference! I will give a talk explaining how particular legal and economic considerations will likely drive particular group(s) of players to be the first to make AI-generated fonts available. https://t.co/PlR3KV16kU

CenturyLink advertises 99.9% uptime. I experienced 99.0% in 2024, 98% in 2025. I switched to another provider; was back online last Sunday two hours after making the decision. If I had stayed with CenturyLink, the repair person would have arrived some time this coming Friday.

CenturyLink had amazing fiber performance and some of the best customer service I had ever experienced — ten years ago. But now it is Comcast-cable-internet–level customer service. Their fiber is great WHEN UP, but after 6+ hours chat wait, then a week for repair? I canceled.

What are some (more) good variable fonts for demo purposes? Obvious candidates include Roboto Flex, Amstelvar, Decovar, DJR’s Fit. Besides Google Fonts I have Adobe Fonts through Creative Cloud, and am open to licensing (or contacting the designer). Why?

New Rust-based version of the C++ HarfBuzz text engine gets its first official 0.1 release. https://t.co/npRtugJleb Still much to do. Notably, HarfRust benchmarks 3x slower than HarfBuzz. Also fails 23 of 6000 tests. See more info here:

Yet another way in which Adobe (among others, they are not alone) support for variable fonts is totally brain dead. Go to https://t.co/HKwjPBl8uC and check out the lovely new Adobe Aldine. Set weight and optical size. Change from regular to italic and lose those settings. Sigh.

If you are interested in the market for font editors, please do NOT buy this report. The PR piece describing it has many falsehoods and absurdities throughout. https://t.co/Ed0VHHQ7At That said, you CAN play the game of “name your FAVORITE lie or falsehood” from the report!
