The greatest returns come from betting on or against assets people are emotionally attached to. L1s have emotional attachment from people feeling like they're part of a network/community. There's also sunk cost where people are unable to admit their technology or implementation.
Robinhood once again proves that L1s are valueless. They're using Arbitrum at first, then they're rolling their own CENTRALIZED chain to have stock trading "onchain". Zero value accrual to the L1. L1s are the equivalent of hoarding fiberoptic cables.

Think there's about 2 years left in Crypto to have massive outsized returns on size (200-300%+ years) with really obvious trades. After this short time period of market maturation and capital destruction for people unable to adjust returns will normalize and become equity-like.

Front ends own the customer relationship and receive most of the value. Users don't care which venue their trades are executed on, they only care that it's a pleasant, low/no cost and quick experience. Users will have the same loyalty to L1s as they have to TradFi venues, zero.

Also, the assets won't be trading against ETH. Why would they? They'll be trading against stablecoins which have now just been blessed by the United States.
