Both are long,cumbersomely written, with shoehorned retconning of the whole series whilst unconvincingly trying to layer on dramatic heft. But where one starts well and then goes downhill to the series nadir, the other starts (very) slowly but builds to truly staggering #cinema.

When Top Gun: Maverick dropped there was talk of @TomCruise saving cinema. With the plane scene in Final Reckoning he brings action cinema full circle, evoking daredevils such as Keaton & Lloyd and breaking free of the CGI shackles that choke excitement. Tom Cruise IS #cinema!
