What did @KeithHabs do in New Brunswick? The @CBCNews reported two days ago that Keith is a "stinky enemy" and he's "wreaking havoc" in the Maritimes. (My YouTube app glitched and caused this AWESOME error. Honestly I believed this for sec, the CBC does very Canadian headlines)

Totally crying hearing about how #KeithHabersberger 's friends all (rightly) assumed @KeithHabs would make his Broadway debut. Love seeing @tryguys happy! (Also cried watching the episode, holy mackeral).

I just learned about the concept of a "comfort character" and I think mine are the kuya and his friends from @laurelfantauzzo "My Heart Underwater". That book gives me nostalgia for an experience of Manila & family I've never had but something in my soul yearns for.

@NPRCodeSwitch @MalakaGharib @GeeDee215 4. In the Disabled Pilipinx group on Facebook, we're working to build a strong community for disabled Filipinos worldwide: Mad, mentally ill, neurodivergent, sick, & disabled. We're chatting about utang na loob today! .

@NPRCodeSwitch @MalakaGharib @GeeDee215 3. Utang na loob is rooted in building community strength. Western values of productivity as human worth, or wellness culture's claims that health is 100% under our control: these allow us to devalue disabled lives and weaken our communities by excluding folks because of ableism.

@NPRCodeSwitch @MalakaGharib @GeeDee215 2. I've got my theories. Catholic colonization taught us to demonize illness and disability as sin. Capitalism devalued us. And those together contribute to ageism that makes utang more about one-way generational piety rather than community building.

What happens when you CAN'T repay utang na loob in the way your #Filipinx family wants due to disability? And why is the community care and solidarity embedded in utang experienced so inconsistently among #disabledFilipinos? From @NPRCodeSwitch with @MalakaGharib & @GeeDee215.

I had a dream that @korndiddy was elected Prime Minister of Canada and things went pretty well. Strengthened universal health care, federal disability benefit, implemented TRC recs, but had to learn French. His outfits in parliament were 👌🏼. @tryguys confused but happy for him.

3. How do you feel about not having had a work history before illness? ⁣.In some ways, I’m still seeking that kind of validation. I’m lucky that in most of my social circles, work doesn’t define us, that I was able to finish school, and that I am able to work a tiny bit. ⁣.

2. I got sick at 20, right after my first semester in college. I have no storied history in the workforce to back me up, no proof that I’m a good citizen of capitalism. No way to say, “before I got sick, I was worth something in your value system” and it’s HARD. ⁣.

1. WHEN YOU NEVER GOT A CHANCE TO PROVE YOURSELF BEFORE YOU GOT SICK. So often, people’s illnesses are only taken seriously when they can refer back to their past as a PhD candidate, top athlete, or high-powered executive. ⁣.⁣ID in link.

4/4 Maybe it's the neurodivergence, maybe it's because I've worked in research for 8 years, but I'm not down for #GatekeepingKnowledge like this. I should not have to guess what my doctor wants me to stay ignorant of to not be abused in the doctors office.

3/4 And I never know if the doctor wants me to know enough to know that I need to be assessed, or if they want me to come in as a blank slate (who can't advocate for myself.) They seem to want me to predict what knowledge I "should" have, in their eyes.

2/4 I've had good reason to avoid bringing these issues up. I'm still dealing with the effects of the most explicit #MedicalGaslighting I've ever experienced- including not receiving appropriate treatment for that issue because of it.

1/4. I'm learning that I dismissed a lot of #CommonComorbidities with #MECFS because I didn't want to be That Patient who comes in with more "rare" diseases she wants assessed. and in the meantime, my health has deteriorated. #MedicalTrauma has done a number on me.

10. Disability has really changed the way I think about what I can and can't do. It's easier for me to be firm about what I can do when I can also recognize my limitations. ⁣.

9. PS: I do second guess my capabilities a lot, especially when I'm claiming or positioned as having expertise, but it doesn't reach the level of imposter syndrome.

8. I learned the hard way that even tacitly hoping for approval from others means eventually, folks can then disapprove of how I identify even if it's right for me. I don't need to justify who I am anymore.⁣.

7. This too comes from a place of capitalistic scarcity- the idea that there's not enough care to go around, and we must scramble to earn it. ⁣.
