In teaching thermodynamics, in 2019, I gave a lecture on the ascent of sap in a tree, analyzed using the basic algorithm of thermodynamics (BAT). https://t.co/YKsYhy8WnM A student in the class gave me a present—his drawing of a BAT on a tree.

Check out the newest paper from our lab led by @Jess_Gersony in @NewPhyt! We used Raman spectroscopy to increase our understanding of phloem functioning in mature red oak trees - implications for thinking about carbon movement in drought!
The second chapter from my dissertation is now in early view @NewPhyt!!! We developed a new method using Raman spectroscopy to SEE the amount of sugar in leaf phloem of large trees! SPOILERS BELOW regarding turgor buffer for drought and passive loading!
