New weekly post, on finding your own personal heroes in particular openings or middlegame structures, and learning from them. With chess openings, especially, it's good to focus on understanding the middlegames in this way rather than trying to memorise. https://t.co/JgxGBYoqFt

Keymer resigned after 64...Rg2 by @MagnusCarlsen in #AimchessRapid. Af first I didn't understand the move. Aiming for the check on h8 seemed natural... but then I saw Magnus' devilish idea... wow! #ChessChamps

But after 28...N4d5 29.Bxd5? Ng4 Erigaisi resigned. Can you see the difference? #ChessChamps #JuliusBaerGenerationCup

28...Ng4 seemed to win in this position for @MagnusCarlsen, but there is a small problem with that move... #ChessChamps #JuliusBaerGenerationCup

The French is played in about 12% of the games starting with 1.e4. In day 1 of the #FIDEWorldCup, where the rating difference is much higher than in most tournaments, we saw it 9 times out of 26 games, a 34.6% -> The French is what you play if you want to win against 1.e4!! 💪

When first playing the French, you need 4 tabiyas after 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 for 3.Nc3, 3.Nd2, 3.exd5 & 3.e5. For 3.Nc3 fun is either 3...Bb4 Winawer or 3...Nf6 4.Bg5 Bb4 MacCutcheon. After 3.Nd2 I think the 3...Nf6 lines are richer in play/learning than 3...c5 but it's opinion #Chess

What do you play when you want/need to win? You guessed it! Grischuk played the French on Monday to win and he lost. He insists on a great opening. Good luck, Sasha!

You know if I'm using social media it must be a BIG deal. Russian star Vladislav Artemiev destroyed Polish GM Mateusz Bartel's defenses with a beautiful attack featuring gems like 16...f5 17. exf5 Bd5! and a full queen sac with 21...Nxh4!! Game from the European Online Club Cup.
