As AI continues to advance, herewith my latest contribution to @Telegraph, on why universities should use this moment wisely to consider what and whose purposes they serve.

An excellent and insightful discussion at a crucial moment in the politics of the Korean Peninsula!.
An honour to appear at @ChathamHouse this evening to discuss UK influence on the Korean Peninsula alongside British Korean Society chair (and my predecessor) Simon Smith, @FCDOGovUK’s Karen Maddocks, and @TheEdwardHowell

The film has not even been released yet, and there are errata. The “Vice-Chancellor” is wearing an incorrect hood; sub fusc standards are horrendous (a bow tie and a ribbon?); and—yes, I know this will irk many on here—the producers have split an infinitive in the trailer.
One year can change everything. Sofia Carson and Corey Mylchreest star in My Oxford Year, premiering August 1 🇬🇧. An American woman who sets out for Oxford University has her life completely on track until she meets a charming local who profoundly alters both of their lives.

The “makeover” to parliament’s “confusing” language sets a concerning precedent. Whatever next? Dumbing down what students are taught at schools and universities because it is “alienating” or “outdated”? It is slippery slope. My small contribution to today’s @thetimes,

What codswallop. A slippery slope, which will also be witnessed in the education sector: the literary canon will not be read in schools on the grounds of “alienating” students; and when students come to university, their literacy levels will be paltry. Decline and fall.
🚨 NEW: The Modernisation Committee is planning to change Parliament's outdated and "confusing" language over fears it alienates the public. Terms such as Bill (proposed law), Division (vote), and Early Day Motions (used by MPs to raise issues) could all change. [@thetimes].

An excellent piece by @edcumming; academic freedom and freedom of speech must be protected and defended. It is hardly a coincidence that the“decolonisation” of reading lists—in the name of diversity—has actually hindered diversity. Viewpoint diversity, where art thou?.
Big exposé of cancel culture on UK campuses, featuring interviews with @mspeakemusic, @AlmutGadow, @RemiAdekoya1 and CAF director Edward Skidelsky.

An important milestone. Freedom of speech and academic freedom are essential components of any university. These values must be upheld and defended, otherwise they will succumb to pernicious ideologies and groupthink.
UK universities have engaged in all these practices widely over the past 10 years. From 1 August, they will be against the law. All those who care about academic freedom should welcome this strong clear guidance. Read our full summary here:

Thank you, @OliverJia1014! My latest for @SpecCoffeeHouse @spectator on the challenges for South Korea's new President. Will the South Korean "Bernie Sanders" cause calm or tumult?.
I wrote an analysis on South Korea's new president for the U.S. edition of @spectator and at the same time @TheEdwardHowell also has one in the UK edition!. Great piece on Lee Jae-myung and the challenges ahead worth reading.

Exactly “10-odd” days (as North Korean state media made clear) after the 25 May launch disaster.

As South Korea veers leftwards, a Lee government's foreign policy--if based upon Lee's past pledges--is likely to have far-from-positive implications on the Korean Peninsula and the East Asian region, at a time of heightened political threat.
BREAKING: Lee Jae-myung, the nominee of South Korea’s main opposition Democratic Party, holds a clear lead in the presidential election, according to exit polls.
