Just published today. Our review discussing why platelet poor plasma is a better injection option than

for muscle injuries. Included is a case series of baseball players I successfully treated with PPP. Hope this helps.

This is why advanced programs with separate intern years should be abolished. All programs should be categorical. There is no logical reason to make a dad/mom spend a year away from family and kids (please correct me if there is a reason that makes sense).
@acgme
This is literally one of the dumbest things I have ever read and not even remotely true. Noakes has lost it. So we should ignore meta analyses in favor of case studies? This is what he is saying.

Really interesting case today. Patient with severe forearm pain with supination.
#Ultrasound
image shows fluid tracking from the bicipitoradial bursa into the radial tunnel displacing the supinator and likely leading to PIN compression/irritation.

Just published. Great study with 10 year follow up indicating that a pro inflammatory diet is assoc with worse knee OA pain. Data supporting the notion that we should be recommending an anti-inflammatory diet (Mediterranean diet) for knee OA patients.
Brett Ryan “Bear” Bowers. Born 8/5/21 at 3:08 PM. 7 lbs 10 oz. Mama and Bear are doing great. Can’t wait to get the 🐻 cub back home to meet his brother and sister and round out our family of 5.

Bo knows hitting ABSOLUTE BOMBs off Hall of Famers. 💣 😳
Bo Jackson nearly hitting the ball out of the stadium vs. Jack Morris.
Bo hitting one of the longest HRs Randy Johnson ever gave up...
And hitting the LONGEST HR given up by Nolan Ryan in his career.

A reminder that corticosteroid injections are far from benign. We see here deleterious effects with a single high dose injection and multiple injections. Is it time we start considering ketorolac as our primary anti inflammatory injectate for joints?
@FurmanPaladins
Shame on you
@FurmanU
. The baseball program began in 1891. For those of us who were a part of it,
@FurmanBaseball
is such a huge part of who we are. I can’t understand how baseball was the sport that was determined to be expendable. So much history.
For those interested in thoracic outlet ultrasound. This softball player is the poster child for pec minor syndrome. She has significant pec minor bowing with her shoulder at her side. This is with no abduction. 😳

For the love, can good journals please stop publishing papers that call ACP “PRP”? A 15 mL blood draw and single spin will not produce PRP. A failure of peer review. Journals must do a better job of selecting expert reviewers.

Saw a 17 yo HS pitcher today for right shoulder pain. Pain worsened last week after throwing 35 pitches Monday, 31 pitches Tuesday, and 76 pitches Wednesday. 🤦♂️ No kidding. That should not be allowed to happen in high school baseball.
#SaveTheArms
Is ketorolac a better initial intra-articular injection option than corticosteroid? The data is compelling. Ketorolac has non inferior pain outcomes, may have less/no deleterious effect on cartilage, and is cheaper than steroids.

I was not a believer in topical diclofenac for knee
#osteoarthritis
b/c it did not seem feasible to me that the medicine would penetrate down to the joint. However, when I looked at the data, I changed my mind. I now prescribe it often for knee OA.

I will say it again. Suprascapular notch injections are WAY underutilized in the treatment of shoulder pathology. Indications include GH joint OA, adhesive capsulitis, subacromial impingement, rotator cuff tendinopathy, among others.

Suprascapular nerve block plus glenohumeral joint injection can decrease duration of frozen shoulder symptoms by 6 months compared to joint injection alone.

One of the coolest gifts ever. The Braves athletic training staff gave me the framed and personalized lineup card from the day that Bear was born. Something Bear will have for the rest of his life and that very few people can say they have. Really, really cool.

This morning I had the distinct pleasure of paying my specialty board $360 to be able to answer a set of busy work questions that have no relevance to my practice, yet somehow prove that I am still a competent doctor. What a racket.

Just published. Further RCT data indicating that both PRP and MFAT work for knee OA. However, again, MFAT is not superior to PRP. Because of this study and others, I recommend PRP for knee OA before considering MFAT or BMAC due to cost and ease of use.

💯. I only send my baseball athletes to PTs that specialize in baseball players/throwing athletes. As docs we have to get out in the community to find PTs with specific niche interests/specialties. This will only lead to better athlete/patient care.
In our opinion, the Physical Therapy world can provide a much higher quality of care if people niched down more rather than clinics being full of generalists that treat everything
That’s the baseball world equivalent of coaches coaching every sport and every position in each
