In Newfoundland I was asked to talk for 10 minutes about the Cod Wars. It's a subject that I spent 5 years writing 100.000 words about as an academic. I'm proud to say I managed to restrain myself to 12 minutes (or so...). Listen to "In Cod we Trust" at @TheBroadcastCBC below.

Though seabird deaths are in the thousands according to people I have spoken with. Here is a beach in Point Lance. One resident thinks more than a 1000 have washed up here alone over last couple weeks.

Preliminary testing indicates avian influenza as cause of death for seabirds being found on our coasts. Results are coming from birds collected on beaches in Ferryland, Point La Haye and Point May. Can. Wildlife Service says more than a thousand birds dead since July 8 #cbcnl
