How can we fully understand animal #cognition? Our new paper in @CurrentBiology proposes that identifying what an animal can't do (cognitive limits) is as important as showing what an animal can do. We address the challenges of studying cognitive limits

Do you order numbers like a bee? Our new piece in @ConversationEDU explains the complexities of how tiny brains (and larger ones) represent and link the concepts of space and number ππ’π§ @ZazaKuo @OzBeeUVBG @beeleslieng

Did you know you have a βmental number lineβ, from smallest to largest? Turns out, so do bees.

Congratulations to PhD Rob Moore on his first publication! ππΊοΈ Rob showed how non-traditional data sources (e.g. social media and community science) can alter species distribution models using a case study on native #Australian #bees. See our article:

Congratulations to @ZazaKuo on her first publication! Zaza's research explores how space and quantity are associated in the honeybee brain ππ’π§ As it turns out, bees order quantities from left-to-right with a bias for the right side of space. Full article- https://t.co/f0m8olsEW3

This is not an easy feat! Amazing work by @LChittka and the bees π
Yesterday at 2pm the first honeybee (Apis mellifera) in this speciesβ evolutionary history managed to pull a string for reward. They are much harder to train than bumblebees, though!

I try to do a lot of science communication, but I've been outdone on my own research here. Way to make research on bees ordering zero accessible and perhaps more humorous than it already was, @ScientistSpidey!

This is the reason we should have all meetings outside! You might get the chance to see blue-banded bees (Amegilla). Of course, then the 3 of us spent 10 minutes trying to capture a picture...

Love this panel discussion title at @VicBioCon #VicBioCon24 - "Not so cute and fluffy!" I'm always keen on discussions of how to conserve, support, and popularise less charismatic species. Seems like a good place to push my own publication on this topic: https://t.co/olHeCH71Nn

Do they see what we see? π Bees and wasps join humans in being tricked by illusions of quantity, write @TheBeesearcher + @OzBeeUVBG (@MonashUni). https://t.co/sWx22xrez5

Being susceptible to visual illusions is part and parcel of life not just for humans, but many other species β including bees.
