From this pool, the top-performing teams were invited to the in-person hackathon in Uganda, where they developed prototype AI models, engaged with mentors, and explored practical solutions for obstetric imaging in low-resource settings.

Selected teams, who were required to include health workers & technical experts, underwent online training covering machine learning, federated learning, ethical AI, and clinical ultrasound imaging, ensuring they had the skills to work with real-world maternal health data.

The hackathon featured software developers and healthcare professionals from Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan & Nepal, working on a challenge to predict fetal gestational age in days using the 8-blind-sweeps ultrasound dataset.

The HASH project, in partnership with @naamii_nepal & @UoEmbu hosted the two-day Obstetric Ultrasound AI Hackathon during the 2nd AI in Health Africa Conference at Makerere University from 6–7 November 2025. The event brought together AI enthusiasts from world over. 🧵

A two-day Obstetric Ultrasound AI hackathon organised by @AiHub4MSRH featured software developers & healthcare professionals from Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan & Nepal who worked on a challenge to predict fetal gestational age in days using the 8-blind-sweeps data set.

The conference also featured exhibitions of different innovations in health from @SunbirdAI @IDIMakerere @Ocular_Project @AceUganda, showcasing how AI is transforming service delivery and patient care across Africa.

From 6th to 7th November 2025, the key conversations across the two days explored AI policy and ethics, localization of AI solutions, capacity building, AI for strengthening health systems, the role of generative AI, and sustainable business models for innovation.
