If “the cruelty is the point,” as certainly seems to be the case, what’s the point of that? What is it about hurting the vulnerable that appeals to these people? Is it the thrill of thumbing one’s nose at karmic justice? God doesn’t exist, so fuck God? I'm perplexed.

Biggest "the kids are fucked" moment I've had recently was buying a car. Walked into the dealership, told them what I wanted and said I'd pay up-front. Expected them to be thrilled. Instead they were horrified. Spent the next 20 minutes trying to get me to finance it at some.
