Just in time for NC Gov Roy Cooper’s #PFAS Awareness Week: There are an estimated >15,000 PFAS in production today. “Forever chemicals” are dangerous to health, and only 6 now have established regulatory levels.
Excited to share a preprint of my recent work showing variation in susceptibility to 10 different #PFAS chemicals in wild C. elegans. Genetic variation impacts sensitivity, but this varies by PFAS structure, leaving a lot of mechanistic toxicology work to pursue. Ideas welcome!.

Did you know that the powerhouse of the cell has its own genome that is important for health?🧬Exposures to chemicals may impact mitochondrial DNA. There is a lot more we need to learn, but summarizing what is known so far in this #environmentalhealth review was a ton of fun!.

Zipcode should not predict health. EJ research ("helicopter science") has been extractive, but research can be used to leverage and understand root causes of health disparities and challenges to address by empowering communities.
