Honoured to be awarded the Brodie Prize for our work, in which we problematise the theorising of Europe's East and Central Asia through western-centric perspectives and russia-centric frameworks, calling instead for the re-centering of the knowledges of (de)occupied societies.

The closer one looks at Russian-Soviet research, the more one finds patterns and narratives strikingly similar to Western colonial research and what becomes remarkable are the lengths to which thinkers critical of Western coloniality do not (want to) see it in USSR-Russia and why.
Diversity of anthropology in Soviet Union as always impresses 😁. It’s hard not to see Moscow/Leningrad as an imperial cluster that studies the savage “others” on the occupied lands. Here’s a list of delegation that met US colleagues in a 1945 Moscow convention.
