Our book isn't straightforwardly about "war and peace", but about the regime and identity divergence between Ru and Ukraine, which Ru refuses to accept. We'll take the "hot new releases" label, though! Thanks, Amazon. @OxanaShevel @politybooks

Leaving aside that Ru has been seeking to destroy Ukraine for the last 10+ yrs, BenAris is also making things up. Ru's income is not on par w EU average! In fact, Ru is poorer on a bunch of indicators than Bulgaria, which is not the EU average, but usually the poorest in the EU.
Since 1991 Russia incomes have slowly risen to the point where ppp incomes are now on a par with EU average. It’s the richest fsu country that didn’t join EU Since 1991 ukraine has remained poorest country in europe + Moldova. Why is that?

WOW! Slovak students walked out of a meeting with Fico after he criticized the EU's support for Ukraine. When the students defended the need to aid Ukraine's existential defence, Fico told them they should "go fight there" instead. These young people have a strong moral compass

Q: Isn't your assessment that Russia does not really want peace? Rubio: Russia demands the rest of Donetsk, which Ukraine can't accept. They keep striking Ukraine’s grid to demoralize it, losing about 7,000 soldiers a week. Their actions show no real interest in peace. 1/

A dark, horrific night for Kyiv. I can hardly remember russia ever bombing this many apartment buildings in a single terrorist strike here.

The news about an investigation into a corruption scheme in the energy sector is, unfortunately, not surprising. It is a logical echo of the past, in which the Kremlin spent decades building a system to keep Ukraine within its sphere of influence. Corruption was one of its main

Must-watch. Complete lack of self-awareness; imperialist frenzy w nods to anti-semitism/anti-immigrant racism. Hyper-imperialist cultural production by the Ru state. Dunno when the US, British, or French states last produced sth like this, 6-7 decades ago, I'd guess.
I want you to take less than 4 minutes out of your life to watch this clip from a new Russian movie called “Good Neighbors.” It’s cringy as hell, but it’s also the best reflection of how Russians currently see themselves despite their bloody past and bloody present. P.S. This

I would go further and say that quite a few EU members don't have similarly strong and active anticorruption institutions either.
Zelensky is facing unprecedented uproar at home over a $100 million corruption scandal in the energy sector involving people in his circle. He has already fired the ministers of energy and justice. That’s probably not nearly enough. But this is all happening because Ukraine,

The fact that Ukraine is now in the middle of a major corruption scandal—where over 100 million dollars in alleged graft in the energy sector has been exposed—should be understood not as a sign of weakness, but as evidence that Ukraine has remained a functioning democracy. This

I don't really get how people imagine the fight against corruption - vibes, papers, essays? Of course, when you dismantle another scheme, it looks unpleasant, but the only reason you even see this is because our anticorruption system works well and no corrupt scum is safe.
This is devastating. There’s no other word for it. As Ukraine’s power grid endures relentless Russian strikes, anti-corruption investigators uncovered a $100 million kickback scheme inside the state energy sector - money stolen from projects meant to fortify and repair the very

Also, this case will now trigger a storm in the judiciary too, which has its own internal struggles w reformists trying to curb judicial corruption. We're seeing Italy's mani pulite and Romania's DNA campaign unfolding during war. It's a dangerous fork in the road.

The Ukrainian corruption scandal unfolding rn falsifies any hope that the existential war would root out corruption. The painstaking work of anticorruption institutions/civil society continues. It seems we now know why NABU/SAPO were attacked over the summer. The fact that...

no one was "punishing" Russia. Bush clearly wanted to prevent the collapse, and Clinton regularly deferred to russian concerns. the west showed a cold almost contemptuous indifference to russia rather than a desire to punish, which maybe galls a person like this even more
☭🟥 In my latest piece, I argue that one of the reasons the US and NATO persisted in their anti-Russia strategy even after the USSR ended was their desire to punish Russia for having challenged Anglo-American global capitalism for almost a century. https://t.co/PgrOlnF0Zs
