Real velocity is what's on the gun. Perceived velocity is how fast the pitch looks to the hitter. Effective velocity is how fast the pitch looks compared to the pitch that came before. The best pitchers in #MLB will master all three.

To throw efficiently, a pitcher must get into the right position at the right time with the right sequence of movements, like dominoes falling. If a domino falls too early or too late, it disrupts the other dominoes. This is the kinematic sequence.

A pitcher's drag line should run straight from the middle of the rubber to the middle of home plate, and you want your belly button, your spine and your nose all on that line, says @tomhousesports . Read more here! #TeamMSTRD #BeACutAbove

Up to 80% of #velocity comes from hip & shoulder separation, says coach @tomhouse . The greater the disassociation of the hips and shoulders and the longer you hang onto that torque, the more energy you'll deliver into the baseball. #pitching #mechanics

A baseball is almost always thrown off the middle finger, which puts force & spin on the ball. A football is thrown off the index finger. The middle finger still provides power, but the index finger applies spin. More from coach @tomhouse in our new blog.

Torque is a twisting force that causes rotation. Think about winding a rubber band attached to a model airplane. The more stored energy in the rubber band, the better the plane flies. In pitching, your body is the rubber band. More from @tomhouse :

Real velocity is what's on the gun. Perceived velocity is how fast the pitch looks to the hitter. Effective velocity is how fast the pitch looks compared to the pitch that came before. We see pitchers who have mastered each in the #WorldSeries

The two questions @tomhousesports gets most often are for how long should pitchers rest their arms following the season? And is it better to stop throwing immediately or gradually decrease to a stop? The answer is you should do none of that. #BeACutAbove

Weighted-bat swings are a great way to get an explosive rotational stimulus without throwing. This #offseason , try them from your knees, then regular, then Happy Gilmore on both sides with a light and heavy bat. #velocity #throwhard #training #rotation #pitching
