Protected urea is 30% cheaper than CAN this year. It makes sense - cheaper, grows the same grass, flexible and is good for the environment.

Protected urea delivers lower emissions at a lower cost. It is cheaper than CAN on a €/kg N basis, and, while it may appear slightly more expensive than standard urea, it will give the same “effective N” as urea, at a 12.5% lower spreading rate. @teagasc @TeagascEnviron

A recently study, published by Teagasc/UCD, demonstrated that high EBI (€181) dairy cows had 10% lower GHG emissions / kg fat- and protein-corrected milk across a range of feeding system, compared to dairy cows with a national average for EBI of €82.
