87 cows have now calved in #newforddemo with 88 calves (2sets of twins and 1 mortality) 50 cows and calves are house on slats with a straw creep area for the calves the plan is to get these to grass as soon as possible. @dawnmeatsgroup @farmersjournal

Suckler cows on FutureBeef farmer Wesley Browne’s farm in Co.Monaghan today, getting 0.5kgs of meal to ward of tetany and keep cows docile. 55 in small groups, good clean outs. Last years bulls, almost 500kg on 7kgs meal and 76dmd silage - weighing next week. #FutureBeef

Soil temperatures are on the rise. We know grass starts to grow once soil temperatures are >5.5 degrees Celsius. We are well above that as can be seen from temperatures taken on our FutureBeef farms below.

First harvesting of new red clover silage field on #futurebeef farmer Shane Keaveney- Roscommon. Silage cut dry on Tuesday and baled Thursday . Yield 8.5 bales/acre. Slurry will be applied this weekend at 2000gals per acre Hopefully weather will take up for more silage this week

Free at last! 22 cows & calves turned out from the maternal herd @Teagasc Grange. They join 30 heifers turned out on the 3rd of February- a record for Grange. Grazing 1.8ha per day to meet Spring rotation planner targets🎯 23 units of Pro urea this week. Great start to 2023🌱☀️💰

Protected urea is 30% cheaper than CAN and emits 71% less GHG emissions so FutureBeef farmer Olivia Hynes is definitely going to use it. But with one tractor and pro-urea only available in half tonne bags, Olivia needed a safe solution and she got one in a fertiliser platform

First cut silage wrapped up on FutureBeef farmers Eamon & Donnchadh’s over 200 bales made, only another 350 to go. 2500 gals slurry/ac on now, top up with pro urea to get 80 units N/ac. Just need weather now Building winter reserves is key read more here.

I aim for calves to be 90kg by 9 weeks of age (0.7kg ADG). The calves are fed milk once a day and all the meal they can eat from when they arrive at 3 weeks old Clean water and deep dry straw are vital #Teagascgreenacres

8 acres mowed down on Friday and picked up tomorrow. Average farm cover >700kgs dm/ha. These covers >3,500 kgs dm\ha, too heavy to graze. Needs fields back into grazing ASAP, Be back in rotation in 3 weeks.

Great activity on FutureBeef farmer Ruairi Cummins, Kilkenny. Last 4 bulls going next week - on 10kg meal &72dmd silage. Heifers AI’d, cows grouped for last month breeding, silage ready, 2 paddocks burnt off 2 weeks, grazed 2 days, disc, harrow & drill, grass seed + 2kgs clover🥵

First cut wrapped up in Wicklow on FutureBeef farmer John Pringles. MetEireann showing soil moisture deficits of 65mm in the east, moisture not fertiliser is limiting grass growth, before applying fert, we need rain🌧️ See dealing with drought notes here
