The reason captive centres are replacing outsourcing models is, no client of consequance can trust their outsourcing vendors with data anymore after AI and data visualization have become ubiquitous and data passed on even partially can reveal all the nuances of any(own) business.

As far as the top guns go, it's a show(fungible services business) made possible by the repurposing of their sales and marketing budgets. Everything else is a side show meant for public(including media) consumption.
