Happy days here in Sydney, Australia, the home of 1940s PI Billie Walker, as I’m able to announce that THE WAR WIDOW has been optioned by a production company to adapt to TV. Wouldn’t it be lovely to see her take over screens, and to showcase vintage Sydney?

Wheelchairs are freedom machines. They are chariots of independence. Please stop describing wheelchairs in negative terms - 'stuck in' 'confined to' etc. Having a
#wheelchair
is frankly awesome for those who use them and would be so much more so in a more

world.
I remember being admitted (once again) into the emergency ward for uncontrolled pain, and a doctor standing over me while I was on a morphine drip. His arms were crossed. He asked me how long I had been experiencing the pain. I told him it had been (at that time) over two years.
It hurts my heart, and fills me with no small measure of rage, to see so many amazing disabled people and their parents work so hard to advocate and educate, only to have a PM with privilege and a huge public platform publicly say he's 'blessed' to have kids without disabilities.
With elderly family in ER today and I must ask this question again: Who is the monster who decided that charging for parking at hospitals is okay?
It is literally profiting off vulnerable people who are waiting hours in emergency departments for medical care. How did this ever
Again today: 'It's not disabled, it's differently-abled.'
Can we not do this? Can we not keep trying to school disabled people on their language? I'm disabled. It is accurate. Disability has meaning. We don't need euphemisms because it isn't shameful.
Australia, I love you. I do. But maybe elevating those who go out of their way to defend paedophiles and sexual offenders doesn't look so good? You know, maybe it seems weird as a priority and even - stay with me here - sends a damning message to survivors of sexual assault?
I turned 50 today, having just got home after 3 months in the US for the specialist medical treatment that finally got my
#CRPS
into remission.
A remission birthday.
I am deeply grateful for every moment.
50. Let’s do this.

1/2 As Tim Curry continues to trend for being fabulous, consider this: "Curry has used a wheelchair since suffering a stroke in July 2012. This has limited his work mostly to voice acting, although he has continued to perform as a singer and make appearances at fan conventions."
If stories seem 'woke' or overly feminist or political to you simply because the protagonist is a woman, non-white, gay, or disabled, you might want to reflect on why white male straight cis non-disabled characters are the only normal for you in a world where most people are not.
This is difficult to write and frustrating. My step-mother just caught COVID in hospital, and my elderly father caught it visiting her in hospital. They have been careful for years and it is the 1st infection for both of them. This week… 1/2
Kudos to the young man who choose not to ignore that I was being harassed by some random creeper on the street in Newtown tonight. Thank you for asking if I was okay and hanging around long enough for him to give up. Little things like that make a big difference. 👍🏻
2/2 Now why would using a wheelchair "limit" his work? Think about this the next time you hear one of those debates about non-disabled actors playing disabled roles. Tim is THE GOODS. (I also use a chair and my work has been demonstrably limited from the moment it was known.)
The

After writing 13 bestselling books, if I am going to keep being introduced foremost as a model, I would like someone to hire me so it can at least be true.

I'm on deadline and not across this campaign, but I am a huge fan of

I've just been called 'Lazy' on Mastadon for sometimes needing a wheelchair for a crippling (literally) pain disorder. The level of

Love you. x
I am so moved. Amazing neighbors Rachelle and Teresa found my stolen wheelchair bag! It had been dumped by the thieves (as I suspected) and ended up spending a night in a garbage bin before being rescued. It's empty but intact!
This community is amazing,

I don’t understand. Isn’t it bad enough that it’s infecting vulnerable patients in the hospital? Shouldn’t there be precautions for staff going from home to home of vulnerable elderly patients?
From the article: "Chronic pain should receive greater attention as a global health priority because adequate pain treatment is a human right, and it is the duty of any health care system to provide it."

I don't feel sympathy for these high-profile men accused of abuse and rape, complaining about how 'It's a man's worst nightmare to be accused'. Well, guess what many women's worst nightmare is? This is the time to face accusations, not rehash the 'I'm the real victim' here line.
Do you have any idea how hard it is to use

I am sometimes asked, ‘Is it Disability Awareness Month?’ Not quite. That would be centring non-disabled people, to make them aware. Instead, this is about disabled pride, pride in who we are, which is immensely important in a world that

#RemissionIsPossible
Have I mentioned lately that it’s very expensive to be
#disabled
? Non disabled folks often don’t realise. Equipment, mobility aids, meds, treatments, physio, specialists, lost work, time in hospital, travel to and from appointments. But yes, we get to use those parking spots! 🙌🏻
Authorities are investigating a fire that broke out at a summer camp started by the late actor Paul Newman for seriously ill children and their families

6 in 10 Americans live with at least one chronic disease. 1 in 5 has chronic pain. 1 in 4 has a form of disability. There are a lot of awesome people with health issues. Their lives are worthwhile
In the years since, I have been examined and assessed over 20 times (sadly diagnosed with CRPS multiple times on two continents) with every one of them pointing out how vital it is to treat at the onset. The first three to six months are key. Chronic pain

THAT IS NOT HOW IT WORKS.

6 weeks into

Today I did it. 🙏🏼
‘It doesn’t bother me’. Ok. But does the next 80+ yr old with health problems you are visiting know you don’t take precautions in homes active with COVID? I find this disturbing.
Was using my manual
#wheelchair
today when a lovely couple commented: 'They didn't give you a power chair?' I'm not sure who was meant by 'they', exactly, as I have had to pay for every mobility aid I own. This is often a surprising reality for non-disabled/newly disabled people
@srussolillo

The problem with this kind of headline is that it erases the hundreds of thousands of

After a couple of non-weight bearing days (it happens, a lot.

Celebrate every win, no matter how small. 💪🏻
You cannot see strength from the outside. True strength and resilience cannot be perceived with the eye.
Make no mistake. I have never been more resilient. I have never been more true to myself. I have never been stronger.
I know you teach self-control
@TonyRobbins
, so this should be something you understand. If a powerful man is worried he can't help harassing or abusing women in his employ, he needs to change. That's not an excuse to avoid hiring women. It's a reason to learn adult self-control.
I once threw a grown man down the escalator at Holborn Station for grabbing me by the hair, yanking my head back, and whispering ‘I love blondes’ into my ear.
I look forward to the day when strangers no longer come up to me while I'm using my walking stick and ask if I've tried a 'good quality turmeric' to 'cure' me.
This is your weekly reminder that you matter.
You are worth more than your size, age, or ability. You're worth more than how the body you are in is perceived by others. You are worth more than the world too often treats you.
Look after yourself as if you matter. Because you do
We’ve been in the US for three months, mostly in the south, and we just crossed back into Canada - and it’s like I immediately sense that not everyone is armed with a deadly weapon. Just coffee and weed. Is that possible?
Being disabled in 2021 still means having to navigate hostile architecture. Public spaces without rest areas. Stairs. Inaccessible parking. Lack of curb cuts. It's more than an 'inconvenience'. It's hostile towards those who are

I'm in a bed with tubes coming out of my arm, and from my hospital window saw a person die yesterday in the garden below. And you come at me with this garbage.
Honestly. No one wants this. Illness, age and disability are natural part of life. Grow some compassion.
Feeling a touch exhausted, finding my adaptive truck ♿️ broken into AGAIN, despite precautions. This time they stole my

It's okay to say '

Some disabled/ill/medically complex people won't personally identify with these terms and that's okay, too! Ask.

Today it's been 28 months since I stopped dyeing my hair. Some who haven’t been following my posts assume I've taken to dyeing my hair ‘black’ and want to know what I use. (Hilarious.) This is just me. I've become smoky dark like my 🖤 and with appropriately unruly silvers. Hi.

Disability has social, functional, legal and medical meanings. It’s also a culture, community, identity. You don’t get to just decide those meanings don’t exist. Disabled doesn’t mean ‘unable’ or ‘not ambitious’. And no, disabled people don’t owe you inspiration.
