Another interesting sex specific result was the effect of the granddam diet on the grand offspring lifespan. Granddaughters lived longer if their granddam ate low sugar, whereas grandsons lived longer if their granddams ate a higher sugar diet. If interested check out the paper!.

In the granddaughters (F2), having the dietary effects passed through the dam (F1) line was more advantageous--they lived longer, than if diet effects were passed through the sire line. The same was true for sires (F1) and grandsons (F2), a very intriguing sex specific result.

Using fruit flies we found complex interactions between both granddam and grandsire diets, as well as grandparents and offspring diets, act to shape goffspring life history. Notably the lineage these effects are passed through has sex specific effects.

This week I hung up my lab coat at Oxford Uni, and probably for the last time! I've had a genuinely wonderful year! I've decided to take some time out for my health and then seek employment outside of academia. Thanks so much for everything @iremsepil @EleanorBath1 and lab!.
