"The idea behind the station is much more than just the science. It’s people learning about life as well as doing the science."

The deployment of the satellite/cell linked buoy for tracking white sharks and other species would not have been possible without the help of @Innovasea and the @OceanTracking - huge thank you to the teams for their hard work to make this possible!!

Great to be out on Nova Scotia's Mahone Bay last week with our friends at @Tancookstation deploying our new NexTrak receivers. We love having another acoustic telemetry research powerhouse in our backyard!

We had a busy day - live linked bouy for detecting white sharks in Mahone bay, deployment of next generation of @Innovasea receivers and four new moorings to see if sharks use the inner region of Mahone Bay! @Tancookstation

Recently we deployed a satellite/cell linked buoy between East Ironbound and Seal Ledge. This buoy sits on the surface and gives us periodic updates on any tagged species detected within its range. We we will be posting weekly updates to inform you of any detections! #whiteshark

Follow the Tancook Islands Marine Field Station for updates on white shark research in Atlantic Canada. Fabulous collaboration to get the gear in the water (and there are more receivers to go in..) to track animals tagged by @OCEARCH and @A_WhiteShark @WhiteSharksGlob
Last week we deployed 42 moorings throughout Mahone Bay! Acoustic receivers on the moorings will detect tagged white sharks (and other fishes, sharks, etc.,) in the area over the summer, and we will download the data in the fall when we pick them back up. 🦈

three years in the making......and now the amazing journey begins on growing the field station and generating data for the incredible white shark in Atlantic Canada. Associated with @iBioUWindsor Kudos to @Loretta04550704 for our logo! @WhiteSharksGlob
We’re very excited to announce the launch of the Tancook Islands Marine Field Station! We are starting research this summer to derive data on #whitesharks and their ecosystem in Atlantic Canada! Stay tuned for more information once our website launches!

Robert for using his tractor to move the anchors to the head of the Big Tancook wharf for easier pickup, and to the local fishermen for their expertise in guiding the locations of the moorings and assisting with deployment!

This would not have been possible without the help and support of the community. Thank you to the @oceantrackingnetwork for dropping off the anchors at the Chester wharf, the Tancook ferry crew for loading and unloading 8 pallets (each weighing ~1000lbs!) of anchor weights,
