Just chaired my first ever meeting for @LGBT_NUH 🥹 thank you to the lovely team for making it fun and welcoming. So excited to be involved 🩵🏳️‍🌈

I’m just left feeling that @UHDBTrust has a system that potentially disadvantages and discriminates potentially a lot of people. Is it just me? Am I just overly annoyed at the inconvenience!? End.

Looking back at the email it says in small print ‘please print the form’. Doesn’t say that if I don’t print it I won’t get the blood test. I also spoke to someone at the practice and there was no mention of printing the form. This is absolutely not a big deal, for me. 8/

What if I had a disability that meant I found getting out of the house incredibly stressful, wasn’t tech savvy and was turned away? What if I was living in poverty and this trip 30 minutes away was for absolutely nothing? 8/

So I get back to the car and once the mild rage dissipates, I realise how absolutely ridiculous this service is. What if I was 80, had no access to book via internet? Had difficulty with transport to get to the clinics that aren’t local? 7/

I turn up, go in and am told ‘I can’t do anything without a paper form, you should have printed it off.’ 😳 I tell the phlebotomist I didn’t know I had to print the form, that my understanding was it was a digital system, can’t they print it off now I’m here? Apparently not 6/

I get an email or two, one containing a pdf of the blood form, and a text reminder yesterday. I’m aware I don’t have a physical blood form but seeing as the WHOLE process thus far has been digital, I don’t worry too much about this. Off to derby I go. 5/

So, there are no clinics inside a 20 minute radius that have appointments within the month. Another red flag imo. So if I didn’t have transport to go to Derby I’d have to wait a potentially clinically significant time to get the bloods done? So I book, for this evening 4/

First problem - this is by far not an accessible system for everyone. I rang the practice as historically I have always had bloods done in the hospital I work in and wanted to check they would make it to the lab. Told no - needs to be done at one of their clinics. 3/

As we’ve recently moved house I registered with a new GP. I’m on some meds and as part of regular check ups I needed my thyroid function testing to px my Levothyroxine as a repeat px. GP practice sent me a text saying ‘Dr ___ wants you to book a blood test, click this link’ 2/

Had the most ridiculous experience this evening with @UHDBTrust. Something that has made me absolutely flabbergasted at the level of potential ageism, ableism and implied privilege in their systems. A thread 🧵 1/
