Did anyone else have a mid-PhD crisis, similar to a mid-life crisis, where you suddenly question every life decision you’ve ever made & second guess what career path you want to do post-PhD … no? Just me? Cool 😅

A highly diverse population of nonsymbiotic mesorhizobia🦠lives in Australian soils🥀 but these nonsyms evolve nitrogen-fixing symbiosis🌹 via horizontal gene transfer🧬 📢First 2023 paper in Microbial Genomics @MicrobioSoc with @DrJoshRamsay & Co https://t.co/9x62jfr85k

Introduced nitrogen-fixing symbiotic bacteria horizontally transfer symbiosis genes. Turns out Australian soils contain incredibly diverse non-sym mesorhizobia populations capable of symbiosis following such gene transfer. Well done @colombi_elena https://t.co/QDBjwQZ5d2

One for the Integrative & Conjugative Element aficionados. Mobilome of Genus Mesorhizobium is dominated by ICEs and IME including the largest known mobile tripartite ICE (853kb). Large pangenome and extensive MGE recombination @MicrobioSoc @colombi_elena https://t.co/Epex5qmRuP
