Bertie was killed with the 2nd Battalion during the Battle of the Ancre. My recently departed Chum Derek and I managed to reunite his British War Medal and Victory Medal a few years ago.

Cracking clip showing the advantage of the chargers, 10 round magazine and the short bolt that means rate of fire and aimed shots can be achieved 👍

The Chatham fair has always been an excellent event but, sadly, yesterday we received news that the December fair will be the last. Hopefully the Chatham Militaria team will find a new home soon.

@Taff_Gillingham @PboroMuseum Dragoons, Lancers & Hussars charging German guns at Elouges on 24 August which my mate Ben Clouting took part in. Painting patriotically features them getting in amongst the gunners which in reality they didn’t. Hell of a charge though! Ben lost his horse shot from beneath him.

@Taff_Gillingham @PboroMuseum Glad your talk yesterday was well received, Taff. @CambsWFA have done a fantastic job researching their local Chums and I hope others will follow their example. There is so much that can be learned and also preconceptions regarding those who served with the BEF in 1914 changed.
