[2/3] Unfortunately, this practice is having drastic impacts on local parrot populations. So, Dr. Ada Sánchez-Mercado of UNSW started Provita, which investigated this practice and engaged communities to effect positive change. @Volando_Juntos_

Do you like parrots? Well so do women on the Venezuelan island of Macanao. So much so, that large numbers of them take parrots as pets, aiding loneliness in communities and often thinking that this helps protect the parrots from life in the wild. [thread 1/3] @Volando_Juntos_

(2/3) I am currently Treasurer and member-at-large at Sydney SCB and I formerly held the Presidential role a few years ago. Something that gives me hope is the amazing groundwork that young activists are taking to secure the future of our planet.

(2/2) I’m optimistic that our food systems can become more biodiverse and help conserve local species. I love Sam Bentley on instagram, he shares positive and uplifting news on sustainability, conservation, the environment, and overall good optimistic news about the world! #scb
