Popping in here one more time to say that since I quit Twitter I needed a place for my basketball thoughts, so I started a newsletter. It's called Green Tint, because everything is tinted from a Celtics' fan's perspective. You can subscribe here: https://t.co/2QQQhmRw3Z Ok bye

M'man @joe_sheehan with his usual clear-eyed analysis of yesterday's A's news. He discusses market size, TV deals, aesthetics, real estate, poker and hyperbolic snipers to make so many great points. Some excerpts. Subscribe at https://t.co/6WpLKCMlUk

Good for them. I wish the Red Sox still had clear-headed executives like Mike Hazen around.
Left-hander Madison Bumgarner has been designated for assignment by the Arizona Diamondbacks, who will eat more than $34 million remaining on his contract, sources tell ESPN. Story, free and unlocked, at ESPN:

Believing a baseball team brings jobs and economic development to a community is like believing vaccines cause autism. If you actually think this is true, you are buying into a deranged conspiracy. Pick up more tin foil next time you're at the store.
BREAKING: The Oakland Athletics have zeroed in on Southern Nevada, signing a binding purchase agreement for land just west of the Strip where a major-league ballpark could be constructed.

That's not to mention the Raiders and Golden Knights, who I assume will remain far more popular than the A's.

You think the A's will be more popular than the Las Vegas Aces? Are you sure? The Aces just won the title, and bring back possibly a tougher team this year. The WNBA is growing in popularity. The A's suck, and may suck for awhile. And MLB's popularity is static at best.

Choosing to abandon a market with a dedicated fanbase, and in a city where you're the only pro team, for a market that doesn't know them, has a climate that is inhospitable to playing outside in the summer, and where you're the 4th team is galaxy brained to the nth degree. Sad.

This is robbery in the still of night, no different than Art Modell leaving Cleveland for Baltimore. The city of Oakland refused to just bow down and build the cheap-ass A's a ballpark, so they picked up their ball and went home.

From literally the start of booking. I just booked airline tickets today, and the entire process was infuriating. Airline travel is incredibly dreadful these days.
I wish instead of all these airplane stories about crying babies, families needing to switch seats, etc, we talked about how actively painful airlines have made it to fly these days. But instead of blaming the corporations, people are just yelling at/shaming each other.

NEW: Carroll lawyer Robbie Kaplan caustically responds to Trump's request that the court tell jurors he is excused from trial because of the burden on the court & NYC. If he's got time for UFC matches & NRA conventions, she says, he can show up for a trial about rape.

NBC Sports Boston had a really good night. It was the network's highest prelim rating in over 10 years for a Cs game. Not yet sure of the men 25-54 rating, but network says it was its highest ever for a playoff game.

I get that last night was a playoff game for the C's, and it's the start of Red Sox season, but I feel like there was a time when even with that context, those numbers would have been flipped.
A couple of ratings/viewership notes from last night, with the Sox and Celtics going head to head. Celtics got a 7.33 rating (preliminary, final number likely to go up) on NBC Sports Boston. Sox got a 2.65 (again, preliminary) on NESN. Likely to rise a little.
