When PM Albanese says “Australia has consistently been a part of the international call for a ceasefire” it obscures the fact that Australia only began calling for a ceasefire in December 2023. More than 18,000 Palestinians had been killed and 50,000 wounded.

What does this ceasefire really mean? This is yet another Band-aid on a badly bleeding patient. Unless the world pushes for a political solution and an end to Israel’s military occupation this will merely be a pause before more killing. My new column.
