I now conclude my time as a Senator in the Federal Parliament. It’s been such a privilege to represent South Australia. Unconstrained by party lines, I never held back and I never voted against my conscience. I’m proud of what my team and I achieved. No regrets! #auspol

In deciding Richard Boyle’s fate, the court considered the issue of “vigilantly justice” being dished out by citizens. Sadly, no court has ever been given the chance to consider the issue of “vigilantly injustice” being dished out by ATO leaders. #auspol

Tax office whistleblower Richard Boyle avoided a conviction, but let's not forget why he blew the whistle in the first place.

The #ClimateCrisis Minister’s question time brief on the International Court of Justice’s climate action advisory opinion is written in doublespeak. The Govt wants to have its carbon cake, and eat it too. #FOI #auspol

In July, the ICJ handed down a significant climate action advisory opinion at the behest of the UN. Australia responds with doublespeak.

Well done to @ABCaustralia for publishing this statement on Richard Boyle. 👏👏👏 #auspol

The ABC welcomes today’s decision not to convict whistleblower Richard Boyle, although his case again highlights the need for whistleblower protections to be strengthened.

Today’s outcome is a relief, but there was little justice in the eight year persecution of Richard Boyle, a hero who everyone (including the judge) accepted was motivated by public interest. #auspol

‘Blowing the whistle can be a tough gig,’ Adelaide judge says, while Rex Patrick declares Boyle ‘a hero’ for speaking out in 2018

Richard Boyle has walked from the court after eight years of hell with NO CONVICTIONS. A small win in an otherwise disgraceful prosecution. #auspol.
I’ll be supporting whistleblower Richard Boyle in the SA District Court this morning as sentencing is delivered. Richard is a hero who acted in the public interest, only to be hung out to dry by Govt. Eight years of suffering. No conviction please! #auspol

In January 2023 @dfat’s Office of the Counter-Terrorism Ambassador offered to draft legislation that would allow the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps to be listed as a terrorist organisation. Labor knew the IRGC was a threat, but declined to act. #auspol

The Government yesterday moved to declare Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist organisation, but they were warned earlier.

On 11 January 2023 officials drafted a nomination form to list the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organisation under Division 102 of the Criminal Code, but the Govt didn’t proceed with the listing. Why? Did they ignore a threat? More to follow! #auspol

When I requested public access be granted to the Govt’s plans around a critical mineral strategic reserve, I wasn’t expecting a claim that our rocks are a matter of national security. I guess it’s a case of ‘secrecy rocks for @AlboMP’! #FOI #appeal #auspol

The Albanese Government's election promise of a plan to have a critical minerals strategic reserve remains a secret.

A fundamental goal of buying expensive defence equipment is to ensure, through its deterrent effect, it never gets used for conflict. For the #AUKUS submarines, the US is asking us to part with our money and from this goal. #deter #sovereignty #auspol

I’m not someone very comfortable supporting Trump, but credit where credit is due. Rather than just gifting public money to private enterprise, Govts should instead take equity stakes. Entrepreneurs and inventors still have incentive to succeed, but society benefits too. #auspol

In Opposition Labor took a stand against modern #slavery and supported my private Senator’s bill to ban imports of goods produced by slave labour. Now in Govt they’re going slow, fearful of upsetting Beijing. One had hoped for better. #Uyghur #auspol

A consequence of greater integration with the US military is the loss of focus on operating without them, or an ability to do so. It increases our dependence on the US for ‘defence of Australia’ and decreases our sovereign choices on participation in distant conflicts. #auspol

#FOI juxtaposition: When I request info about a potential #AUKUS sub base at Pt Kembla, I get told the issue is sensitive and I can’t have any docs. But when Chinese interests buy land right next to the potential base, they’re not at all concerned. #auspol

The potential location of a nuclear submarine base remains shrouded in secrecy as FOI requests are invariably denied, except when not.
