I've partially come around on this post. The best-faith reading is that the poster believes that IE exists, but was discovered for the wrong reasons (racism); scientific considerations were secondary in the late 18c. Maybe true.
in uni I wrote my dissertation on how Indo-European as a linguistic group only exists bc eugenicist Anglos & Germans couldn’t square the complexity of Sanskrit & Indian civilisation with it being a continent of Subhuman Browns. linguistic macrotaxonomy is a joke.

The US has a ton of problems but it's really incredible how expansive our free-speech rights are. The government announcing which protest signs are illegal is completely alien to me.
Palestine Action has now been proscribed by the UK Government and expressing support for them is a criminal offence. This includes chanting, wearing clothing or displaying articles such as flags, signs or logos.

Very privileged take. Tons of speakers of minority languages would kill to have their *children* speak their language, much less foreigners.
I'm opposed to this, because every time I meet someone who can say three words in German, they feel the need to demonstrate it to me. And I don't want to hear it. I don't want to hear your piss-poor attempts. You can't do it. Shut up, or say it in English.
