Polanco is a good hitter from both sides of the plate. He’ll DH plenty, but can move around the infield. The Mets believe he’s athletic enough to handle 1B. This isn’t a 1-for-1 Alonso replacement. Not much could be. All these guys will be replaced in the aggregate. Solid start.

Polanco can hit. .821 OPS last year. Very versatile but played 1B for the first time in majors last year. Almost exclusively a SS for first 7 seasons in majors. #mets

With the Mets, Jorge Polanco (pending physical) will mostly play 1B, potentially DH and provide insurance around the rest of the infield because of his versatility, league sources said.
