I've enhanced for you this strikingly immediate autochrome of a WWI French soldier. Taken about 110 years ago, this autochrome (held in the Michel F. David collection) dates from around 1915, when the horizon blue uniforms were first introduced for French troops in the Great War.

I've cleaned up this gorgeous Victorian photograph of Dickensian London, overshadowed by the sheer magnitude & dominance of St Paul's Cathedral. It was photographed by John Leighton 166 years ago, back in 1859. I think the mooring poles in the foreground almost lend a Venetian

Travel back 116 years to a lazy day in France. I've enhanced for you this very early autochrome from 1906. It shows Dette and Louloune - the nieces of the Lumiere brothers, who had patented the autochrome process 3 years previously. It is not colourised.

An enhanced autochrome of a young girl in 1919, clutching a single poppy in a French field, a year after the Great War ended. A poignant autochrome, taken in colour 104 years ago by Gustave Gain. It is not colourised 😍

These photos may be separated by 180 years, but their subjects look like they were separated at birth! I've enhanced this portrait of the Reverend Rollin Heber Neale (c.1845) who bears more than a passing resemblance to the great Hugh Laurie! Maybe we all wear secondhand faces?

I do love the characters of Victorian Daguerreotype portraiture, and I've cleaned-up this incredibly striking gentleman from the 1850s who, I have no doubt, had many tales of alarums and excursions!

A rare colour photograph of legendary French sculptor Rodin (1840-1917) - famous for 'The Thinker' & 'The Kiss'. He's pictured here 117 years ago with his sculpture 'Eve', taken by Edward Steichen in 1907. It has a beautiful dream-like quality & is original colour, not colourised

I've given a clean-up to the first colour photograph of the Arctic, which was taken in 1910 by Adolf Miethe, who had travelled on the airship Zeppelin to a wild archipelago in the Arctic Ocean, located halfway between mainland Norway and the North Pole. The area was later claimed

Sorry I have not been around lately to delight you with my autochrome enhancements - I have some very dear friends visiting in the UK and time is happily engaged with them away from my computer. For much of next week I shall not have any internet access either, but worry not, all

A stunning autochrome from 1915: a young lady - representing the Buddhist goddess Quan - holds a lotus flower whilst sitting on a giant lily pad. I've enhanced this striking shot by Frankin Price Knott which was taken in colour 110 years ago. It is not colourised.

This is such a clever autochrome... It is taken in full colour, but by adding copperwear to match the tones of the painted window frame & shutters, plus a matching rust shawl on the young lady, the photographer has created an amazing two-colour effect. It is so, so clever! It was

This Edwardian scene of children at a breakwater on the English coast is 117 years old. I've cleaned-up this lovely old autochrome, which was taken by John Cimon Warburg back in 1908. It was originally taken in colour & isn't colourised.

It's the end of a very long week and this is exactly how I am feeling... Only this photograph was taken 117 years ago! I have cleaned-up this remarkably modern looking autochrome portrait of the snoozing photographer Gabriel Veyre, seen here in Casablanca in 1908. It is original
