The @ATGUSAMade Buddy Sled is a specific solution I kneeded for a school I’ve been helping. For my own workouts, I use the resisted treadmill - and all my shoes and equipment are on sale for the holidays! This video also covers the history of sled dragging:

Minimalistic Workout Program w/ Sets/Reps List I haven’t had a knee or back problem in 12 years despite a long list prior. Anything could happen, but my training style has shifted my body to be more resilient than normal. I train 2x per week for about 1 hour. Here’s my list +

Knee Ability Zero Manual This has helped people to 1000s of knee success stories, but please understand this is not a quick video (11 minutes). The purpose is a deeper study for someone wanting to better understand and apply this subject. Hope it helps.

I hope this adds to your knowledge and skill with Demand v Ability. We can’t prevent all things, but costly/complex solutions have ample energy in today’s world, and simple basics that often WORK are sometimes scarcely known.

And this may help clarify for some: It doesn’t make sense to wear a shoe that will deform your toes inward compared to your foot’s natural design. But it also doesn’t make sense to have no cushion if you’re in a concrete world. Foot-shaped? ✅ Cushion that works for you? ✅

Footwear becomes another big question with feet. I won’t pretend to be an expert. What I have seen work well as a TRAINER: DURING the training session, wear a flexible, foot-shaped shoe, with enough cushion so your foot doesn’t hurt. I want those foot muscles working!

So with backward + calf raise you have an approach of ABILITY to withstand DEMAND on the feet, and anyone who can walk can start. Ultimately our ills are Demand v Ability. We can’t always control Demand, but don’t get so lost in complexity that you forget ABILITY MATTERS. 🙏

Is calf raise an end-all/be-all, HECK NO! But whether progressing bodyweight with a wall, or loading: YES, your long-term ABILITY matters when it comes to foot pain. Conversely: increased factors of DEMAND such as weight gain or running INCREASE foot pain.

And calf raise sounds boring, but its value is usually missed for people with foot pain. With the feet, more complex solutions are often advised before more basic ones. Ultimately, if you have foot pain: DEMAND is exceeding your ABILITY…

Whether bodyweight, dragging a sled, or using a resisted treadmill, I’ve seen great foot results from backward. I got into it when trying to get off painkillers for my knees. Benefits for my shin and foot pains were unexpected. It’s not an end-all/be-all though…

My wish for anyone with foot pain - among any other data you have - is to know just how powerful backward and calf raise can be long-term. For example, running is the sport with the most foot pain. Backward allows you to directly work on your ability to handle demand…

All equipment used in this thread is USA-made: @Sorinex @RogueFitness @AbMatUSA @SpudIncstraps https://t.co/J66m9gGOnZ (my site) But it’s NOT a “USA vs” game for me. People in other countries are copying me and making their own businesses. I wish success for all.

There ya go! I’m a gym owner and I’ve trained top-10 earners in all major pro sports. But helping students is my greatest passion, and these are my findings from being responsible for the gym of 100+ students and faculty this year. I hope you found something useful here!

5/5. Backward sled is a further regression and Spud Inc’s fabric is the best solution I’ve seen for schools and CrossFit gyms because it can slide on almost any surface, and takes almost no storage. We’re even making a version together where the STUDENTS are the weights! 😂🙌

*Students should know that “no knee over toes” was an understandable mistake from the 1970s. Now research shows it to be helpful. Understanding this as a PAIN-FREE scale of ability completely changed my life, so over the past 7+ years I’ve made 1000s of posts about it.

4/5. With the same slantboards, the stepdown can regress and/or further boost patellar tendon development! Smaller step, less slope, and assistance all make it easier. For over 10 years this has been my go-to for helping basketball and volleyball players play without pain!

*Students should also know that deep squats aren’t “bad,” and when understood well, can help preserve the knees and back. https://t.co/ytNbfT0rPy

3/5. I keep 10 slantboards so huge groups can work on deep squats. I let students use whatever degree of heel elevation feels good for them. And I teach them how COUNTERBALANCE makes it even gentler to start!
