Last night crews responded to 54 High St where a working fire was ordered for a fire in a pantry off the kitchen. The fire was contained to the room of origin.

Firefighters raise Santa to the small roof of the fire station after he underwent some minor repairs. Santa dates back to the 1950s and has been repaired and repainted by firefighters many times over the years so he can continue his service as our longest serving member.

There will be a training event at the zoo today starting around 1 PM involving zoo personnel as well as fire and EMS agencies. The zoo will remain open to the public during this training.

This morning, firefighters welcomed visitors from the Middlesex Youth Public Safety Academy. The children were shown the apparatus as well as some of the equipment firefighters use.

Chief Gregory Burns has concluded his 39-year service to the Town of Reading, with 24 years as Chief. Chiefs and Firefighters visited to congratulate the Chief, and he departed on the Headquarters Engine Company. We thank him for his dedication and wish him a happy retirement.
