What's funny about this is, it's inarguably true that putting on the most cost effective fights possible is maximizing shareholder value in the short to medium term. Arguable about the long term. Being a public company is hurting fighters significantly more than being private.

Every 10 years or so, I like to remind people, including Tom himself that "Filthy" Tom Lawlor sprained my ankle in Bridgewater MA when I was 18. Meaning ... I sprained my own ankle trying to hold "Filthy" Tom Lawler in guard, and was 145 lbs at the time. Almost had him, though.

A brief, illuminating thread for those who wonder how Tapology comes up with its league flagging system, even for leagues that HAVE and DO hold 'legitimate' fights. We're not going to pick and choose when we THINK you're not lying if we KNOW you do routinely. Many such cases.
We've gotten questions about why we have Alash Pride marked as an ineligible league for Tapology records. Seems odd because they run a lot of events and seems like a big deal in Kazakhstan. Well, they mix fake, illegitimate fights into their events. We don't know how deep the

It has always been a thing in combat sports wherein a contender can 'get sticky' based on the quality of competition he's faced. But is that actually a bad thing? Tiers exist for a reason. A fighter can be on a win streak against cans, or a losing streak against all-timers.
Determining where to rank once-elite fighters who go on losing streaks against other elite fighters is difficult. We don't have good information on how he'd do against the next tier of guys down from that elite range. Our system works on a set of rules where you earn points.

With Almabayev out due to injury, I think Alex Perez should get the call to fight Brandon Moreno in Mexico. The two were scheduled to meet in 2020, but that fell through. Also, despite winning 2 of his last 6, the Tapology algo loves Perez, and has him ranked eighth at 125 lbs.

When you first become a hardcore MMA fan, you defend fights like this. Eventually, you sour on them. Sure, there's plenty happening. None of it is compelling. One guy is fighting not to lose. The other guy is not fighting to win. Fight shouldn't have been made.

Paramount stream quality is not ideal. They seem to be aliasing their pre-taped footage, which is why the subtitles look like they're in low fi. Broadcast resolution seems variable. Hope they step it up for future events.

Not a lot of movement in the first Tapology UFC Rankings update of 2026, but there are some logjams at the top of the featured divisions that have yet to be sorted. Lots of quality match-making opportunities coming up. Jean Silva is the only one making major noise this week.
