New balls, please. #sundayshare pre-season tip, this cheap tyre inflator takes the pain out of blowing up that dozen new footballs you just got delivered. Cost £10 (car to plug it into not included).

My 2nd #SundayShare is an insight from a leading Italian club academy setting out the attributes of the coach. High standards and aspirational stuff from the Italians. Something we can all reflect on pre-season.👏.@SundayShare10 @TheS_Resource

Continuing the theme of adaptable practices, this 5 v 3 #SundayShare involves combining with the central player for a point. However, it can be used to focus on several learning outcomes: . (1) simple possession; .(2) line breaking passes (linking vertically);.(3) centre forward

Little Friday thinker: these are the core moves identified by the FA as tactics we should be coaching young players. How many do you recognise from your own sessions?.@Tactica1Thinker @TheS_Resource #coremoves

Few folks asking about this. Note: U10s playing 'all positions', U12 = 4, U16 = up to 3. Why are some grassroots coaches then insisting on fixed positions? 🤔 .@TheS_Resource
Anyone who has read Constraining Football by Ben Bartlett will be familiar with his experience at an elite academy where young players played in multiple positions, even at U16 they had 3 positions. Frustrating then when grassroots teams are moulding full time positions at.

Want Smarter Players? Train Them in Every Position. Most coaches complain their players lack game intelligence. But the real issue?.You’re keeping them locked in roles instead of teaching them to see the whole pitch. This article on positional rotation flips the script 👇. ✅

My #SundayShare is a dual purpose practice that can be used as part of a possession focus or (2) counter pressing training block. Some coaching considerations:. Coaching points (possession):. · Positioning to receive: back foot focus;.· Movement off the ball and making angles to

Former West Ham academy director, Tony Carr, once said he didn't apologise for using unopposed drills to develop his players. Carr was stood down more than 10 years ago but does his advice still stand today?.@TheS_Resource #footballdrills

Excellent relaunch of @TheS_Resource which is one of the few remaining free, honest and supportive sites out there for coaches, parents and anyone else connected with the game. 👏

My #SundayShare is a dynamic 2 v 2 in the box focussing on passing, receiving (and finishing). Coaching points:.· Scanning: first movement - check the shoulder. · Movement/timing: off the ball; looking for space and angles to receive. · Positioning to receive: aim for on the

My #SundayShare is a practice from earlier this season. This is especially useful for managing difference in 1 v 1 scenarios. Less confident players will be motivated to win the ball first, with the reward being the server joins them for the 2 v 1. @SundayShare10 @sp.
Midweek session plan that focusses on 2 v 1 back to goal scenario. Forwards vie to get first to the ball, hold up and lay off to start the 2 v 1. Coaching points: .•Body position to receive: back to goal or on the half turn?.•Decision-making: which foot to take to ball with?

Holiday #sundayshare - always leave room in the suitcase for a football, pump and a few cones. Simple pass receive and pass drill. This is my son and Slough Town U11 being put through his paces by yours truly. Ice lollies all round afterwards. @SundayShare10 @sp

My pre-season #sundayshare - arrival activity using ABC equipment. I used agility equipment 3 or 4 times last season but it does tick a couple of boxes for young players: the novelty factor makes it fun ✅it helps you assess a player’s agility, balance and coordination (ABC)

My #SundayShare is a Corner Connect, a simple yet solid practice focussing on movement and support play. Teams connect diagonally for a point. This is particularly useful for getting younger players to find space off the ball; also for receiving on the back foot to go forward.

Thought provoking posts from Keith here. Perhaps a sign of the times?.
I know i am essentially the old man of the sea now in the womens game . But from my recent experiences young players in general seem less prepared to push and fight for a place in a team. Asking for guaranteed minutes or have delusions of grandeur as to their levels .

One of my #SundayShare of the season: 2 v 2 in the box. Theme - movement and receiving. Outside players as servers; each play a ball until all balls played then rotate. Coaching points:.- Scanning: first check the shoulder. Support player: can I see the ball? Can I see the target
