I've been a big fan of Rival Sons in recent years, but my goodness, Jay Buchanan's debut album is something else entirely. Very special.

This man must have a seat at the top table. Measured, candid, matter-of-fact, no hyperbole, pragmatic, forthright. Qualities severely lacking in British politics for decades, I’m certain we can all agree. When people say they want β€œadults back in the room” - Clouston is the

To not see the channel migrant crisis as an invasion you have to be overcome with ideology and a total collapse in a sense of self-assertion or danger… My point in the ⁦@NewCultureForum⁩ interview with ⁦@Emma_A_Webb⁩ ⬇️ (Link below)

Perhaps because of the @SDPhq's relatively low profile, this is the first time I've seen @WilliamClouston directly challenged over some of its policies. Needless to say, he handled it very well. https://t.co/QzCtHZFW3O

Comments turned off ... so I go straight to the quotes, and it's glorious! Thin-skinned Labour politicians know their time in office will be very short indeed.

Regardless of which side of the Gaza issue you are on, relying on such an immature tool (AI) at such a high level to instruct your decision-making is both naive and negligent. https://t.co/CKH8opn0R6

To be sold with tenants in situ. Really? The tenants that treat your property like this? Am I judging too harshly? Interested to know.

PS: Matthew Macfadyen's portrayal of Charles Guiteau was brilliant. Manic and unhinged, articulate with an air of menace, and totally fucking deluded! I won't critique the series' portrayal of him because he killed a president and paid for the crime appropriately. 25/25

That President Chester Arthur was a drunken thug? That Garfield was killed by a white man despite a black man knowing better? That Garfield's widow forcefully made his successor a better president than he would otherwise have been? 24/25

But I don't know how typical I am in this respect. How many people will have watched this series and believed that everything was what really happened nearly 150 years ago? 23/25

So maybe that's the purpose of such historical dramatisations: to entice us to become more questioning through entertainment. The three examples above are all moments while watching the series when I couldn't really suspend my disbelief. I had to know the truth. 22/25

In summary, it was a very enlightening and enjoyable series to watch, and being only four sub-hour episodes it was easy to watch in one sitting, which I did. However, its characterisations of the people around Garfield left me with questions. 21/25

Finally, it should be recognised that Lucretia Garfield kept all of her husband's papers and created the first presidential library, a wing of their family home in Ohio which is now managed by the National Park Service. An impressive lady for this alone. 20/25
