I have followed Keanuú Smith-Brown closely for the last four years because he is one of our community's great talents. He is one of the rare people gifted with the ability to make sense of complex problems and communicate solutions in a way that encourages community to engage.

And I want to encourage you to embrace them and welcome them to join our movement, because together we can restore the rule of law, restore checks and balances, and restore human dignity and respect for one another.

The harm this administration is doing is not separated along party lines. Trump voters will also lose their health insurance, their housing, their jobs.

We can only rely on ourselves to mobilize and vote to Take America Back from Trump, Elon Musk, and the other billionaires supporting their dismantling of the United States government.

We cannot depend on Republicans in Congress. We cannot depend on the Supreme Court. We cannot depend on Fox News or Sinclair Broadcasting to tell the story of what is happening in our nation.

But I also spent a decade as a community organizer and majored in Latin American Studies, where I learned about the shift from democracy to authoritarianism in other nations. Every single time, it is the power of the people that brings us back to democracy.

I promise to use every legal tool available to me as your County Executive to combat these attacks on our communities.
