Finally time to announce that my NSF CAREER proposal has been recommended for funding! We will be investigating patterns of skull shape evolution across 1200 acanthomorph fish species and testing hypotheses of modularity.

We (@KeitaSaito1227, Yuma Takahashi) showed that variation aligns across biological levels. We proposed that #macroevolution mould #developmentalbias with a cascading effect on variation. #Microevolution then may be a result—not a cause of—macroevolution. https://t.co/PoJw5QskUU

In what may be one of Earth’s craziest forms of mimicry, researchers in 2023 reported a species of rove beetle that grows a termite puppet on its back to fool real termites into feeding it. Learn more during #InsectWeek: https://t.co/DGNVVL0Pjz

Among the highlights of our @RiceUniversity Tropical Field Biology course in Belize was this shot from a camera trap the students set up along an abandoned road near our research station! Who can tell me the species?

Ancient sloths ranged in size from tiny climbers to ground-dwelling giants. Now, researchers report in Science that this body size diversity was largely shaped by sloths’ habitats, and that these animals’ precipitous decline was likely a result of increasing human pressures.
