Sometimes, as a last resort, I would clone the code, and start removing stuff, until the problem stops, then try to see why.

I have a HP 1200 laser printer. It's over 20 years old. I'm still on my second toner. All inkjet printers are garbage, just don't touch them.

I think employers don't want people who have run their own business, because they aren't controllable like normal employees.
Freelances have minds of their own and can out manage all the managers who want to employ you.

Is code readability more important these days than performance?
In some areas speed is very important, games, sorting, searching, etc.
But with so much computing power at our hands, everything else doesn't require super fast code.
Making it understandable is more important.

When using it to help with writing code, ChatGPT is like that hot mate that lies to you. While it looks pretty sexy on the surface but it's got all kinds of issues deep down and rarely works much of the time without a lot of work and coaxing. It's faster to actually "code".
