1/7 We needed power for building gas stations on the Moon and Mars. Suppliers quoted us $100/W for solar and 14 months lead times. So we built our own. Space-rated solar, scalable, and 90% cheaper. Now it powers our mission. And yours. Launching today 🧵

@rookisaacman @Erdayastronaut @CJHandmer Power on the surface of mars can be and is solved at a substantially higher W/kg than anyone has ever guessed, and its sufficient for prop production at really any rate up to 1000 Tons/day If you swing by @StarpathSpace in Hawthorne I can show you the machines that make it work

The cost to build a mass scale propellant production system on the Moon? Significantly < $100M according to @StarpathSpace cofounder and CEO Saurav Shroff. This week’s Pathfinder pod features the LA-based startup developing the infrastructure for lunar resource extraction.

1/ A future where we can support millions of people living on the Moon or Mars is far more exciting than one where that possibility doesn’t exist. Today, @StarpathSpace is announcing over $11M in total funding to help make that multi-planet future a reality

From the initial ideation to the first diagrams, FLEX was designed to be the ultimate mobility solution for the Moon, Mars and beyond. While we wait excitedly for NASA to announce the winner(s), we continue to test FLEX, ensuring it is ready to answer the call, if chosen. 🤞

The current model for deep space transport is painfully expensive because it depends on throwing rockets away for almost all missions. Missions could be 10x cheaper if they had access to propellants produced on the Moon and Mars. That’s what we are solving at Starpath. 1/
