ps - San Antonio’s $1.3B mistake does not make your city’s $1.0B mistake a “good deal.”
Adding $500m in infrastructure bonds for the Spurs arena would bring the total to $1.3B, by far the largest arena subsidy in history, to replace a venue that is the 11th-newest in the NBA, in a city already dealing with staffing cuts to balance its budget.

TL;DR: the big bump in economic impact promised from the last Tampa CFB title game (2017) never materialized. Hillsborough County tax receipts were in-line with the rest of the state.

Wait @fieldofschemes, weren’t we the warning to cities that their deals might be crap?
Worcester should serve as a warning to cities hoping to repay sports project costs with tax revenue from new development (*cough San Antonio*) that there's no guarantee the new housing will get built, plus taxes on new residents aren't a free windfall.

IL's gov said he's OK to pay for roads and infrastructure but not a stadium, kind of a slippery slope when Bears execs want $855m in traffic and transit money, and when the biggest stadium subsidy ever was just approved involving mostly indirect subsidies.

Reminder No 1: The Tampa Bay Rays could have bought out of Tropicana Field at any time by just writing a check. They chose not to.
BREAKING: The City of Cleveland and the #Browns have reached an agreement to allow the move to Brook Park. Jimmy Haslam will pay $100 million to the city, and all pending court cases will be dismissed. Coming to Brook Park in 2029.

ICYMI: another week, another few billion in tax dollars for stadiums.
It's easy for Spurs owner Peter Holt to be confident of winning tax money for an arena when he's spending $2m to get voters to go his way, but just in case may as well employ the "You don't want to find out what'll happen if you make Dad mad" strategy too.
